Invested in small amounts all my life. Personal finance goals are about saving & maximising contributions not chasing ambitious returns. Tweets are not advice.

Added a little to my FTSE big miners. Looking to sell BRWM I think. Regular monthly purchases go into global & small cap trackers. Was in addition to the regular boring drips. Still not putting big money in this financial year though as continuing to build cash/pot for extension.

Listened on walk this morning. I still don't hold TRY but I do like it. Guess I'm still struggling with my greed on entry price. Plus interesting comment re care home costs.... Everyone knows it costs a fortune yet when you look at the rise of min wage, NI etc it makes more sense

Messed up the washing. Roasting sun all week (car read 33 degrees when I picked up a very hot and grumpy daughter from nursery on Thursday!) and did zero washes. Two loads on the line now and it is starting to rain. Classic.

Just came across a well known private company that offers its staff 13% pension contributions. I honestly don't know why people find pensions so boring... Lovely stuff. The 3% employer minimum for workplace DC pension is rather poor. Anyone know if there are plans to increase it?

All this rage recently about the Cash ISA allowance. Do your own research obviously but interesting money market article below for those concerned over £5k limit & have a low risk appetite. Justetf.com has great screener tool as well. justetf.com/uk/academy/mon…

Still looking at the slop in the bottom half of my HL account. It is a mix of old ITs and individual holdings underperforming. Rather than swapping to more ITs I'm tempted by AVCG, AVSG and maybe even a token % in AVEG. ACWI or MXWS would probably be even more simple though.

I think I have a problem understanding emails vs phone calls/face to face. Just been doing a little extra work tonight & a colleague has just emailed back regarding a previous issue with a lovely email - "Thank you Calum. Your help has been invaluable." My immediate thought was

Went for ego pole saw in the end. Hopefully I won't regret the cheaper brand but STIHL was very expensive and I'm only using it for a bit of residential use. New shed is also now up. 8 by 10 is a bit of a beast!

The power of compounding over decades is just ridiculous. My daughter is 1.5 years old. Her JSIPP is £5.7k & her current annualised return is 13.24%. Obviously that won't last but hypothetically say it did: minus 3.24% for inflation & fees and we assume access at 60....£1.4mill🤯

Premium or premier current accounts? Anyone here have them or done research re. best options? Didn't realise the requirement was high income OR high savings/investments. So useful for HENRYs & middle earners who are rich (loose definition of rich here ie. £100k-£250k investments)

Arguing your cost were too high is standard. Assume order was to pay reasonable & proportionate costs. You say your costs were up to £190k & later that you accepted £160k 2 days before the DA. So they were high. His costly mistake was not offering a reasonable amount earlier.

Good breakdown of wealth data from PensionCraft. I often prefer median & decientiles. I made an example: Median vs Avg: 20 ppl earn £20k-£120k (£5k steps), 1 earns £50M.Avg: £2.57M (skewed by £50M) Median: £67.5k If large inequality (UK, USA etc) avgs 👎🏻 youtu.be/vfmKC2umXZA?si…

"tilted slightly to the back" Fridge freezer advice for an idiot. Not sure if this phase means front or back should be higher?

Playing a game with my niece today (3). Basically I had to guess the animal from her description. "Spins in cheese" she kept insisting on this & looking at me like I was a nutter when I kept getting it wrong. Turns out it was a monkey & she was trying to say "swings in trees" 🤣

Call with architect today. They are quiet, not many enquires or instructions coming in. Some top local builders who were always busy have actually called him asking re. jobs in the pipeline. He said post COVID builders could charge whatever they wanted but tide is turning now. 🤔
