Threats were really common at land-grants a decade ago in the midst of the economic crisis. Most legislatures and/or governors stepped back and didn't make drastic cuts. What's going on in #Alaska #highereducation is detrimental to faculty, staff, students, and the entire state.

In A Crisis of Civility?, Anthony Laden (phil.uic.edu/profiles/laden…) makes the distinction between two concepts of civility: politeness and responsiveness. How do you think about or define civility? What steps can we take to stay in conversation with one another even when we disagree?

Glad that K-State is revisiting K-State 2025. I’m glad @ChuckTaberKSU is talking about the land-grant mission. We need to continually think about what it means to be a land-grant today. I’m committed to be part of that work.

These discussions were taking place all over the country. Including rural communities where Dept. of Agriculture, NIFA, #CooperativeExtension, and citizens used public discussion. Read Timothy J. Shaffer’s work to understand more. There’s a chapter in our book!
