We took a virtual reality trip to the Antarctic to see the setting from our One Book, One School “Adventures of a South Pole Pig”! Students loved learning more about the South Pole and all its beauty and wonder. Westmore School School District 45

We’ve implemented a new strategy, reciprocal teaching, to help us become better readers. Working together and thinking more about what you read is the direction we want to go! Westmore School School District 45

As part of our winter data review, Westmore School is celebrating our progress and reminding ourselves of the true definition of a team-people working interdependently to achieve a common goal for which they are mutually accountable. We are excited to conquer our end-of-year goals!

Be careful of comparing yourself to others. The only person you should try to be better than is yourself. Better today than yesterday, better this week than last week, better this year than last year.

Students are analyzing a picture from the Great Chicago Fire by using Right Question Institute QFT (Question Formulation Technique) strategy. This allows us to create, work with, and use our own questions to build understanding and wonder more deeply! Westmore School #chicagohistory

Students use R.A.C.E. as a strategy to answer questions after they closely read an article on the choices people made that affected Chicago back in the late 1800’s. Students are evaluating each other’s responses using a rubric while giving feedback! Westmore School School District 45

When learning about Chicago’s history, we asked the question “How did the Great Chicago Fire start?” After learning and discussing four theories, students wrote a persuasive piece trying to convince the town who or what truly caused the fire. Westmore School

Give us grace. We want the best for your children, too. We have to figure this out together and will get through this together.

I will do whatever I can to stay connected to my littles. To be without them and teach their curious minds hurts my heart, but for now @zoom_us will get us through! Stay well, stay strong. Stay YOU. 💪🏼🤍

What educators/parents are prioritizing to help kids right now: -Instruction -Technology -Relationships What nobody is talking about to help kids: -State Tests Let that sink in, & think hard about what might need to change when we return. #BoldSchool #edchat #QuarantineLife

Educators don’t need pity. We need partners. 📍Read to your kids 📍Put down your phone 📍Show affection 📍Be a role model 📍Set high expectations 📍Teach social skills 📍Acknowledge effort Schools weren’t designed to work in isolation. #BoldSchool #edchat #mondaythoughts

It’s common to dump on schools when kids are behind. But keep in mind, 3 yr olds whose parents read to them typically have double the working vocabulary as their peers. Gaps show up long before kids walk through our doors. Education is OUR responsibility; not just mine. #edchat
