Every major consumer hardware success has re-imagined an existing category: iPhone, Apple Watch, Alexa, Nest Cam, Eero, Peloton, etc. Most new categories have failed or been much smaller: AI Pins, Vision Pro, Apple TV, etc. iPad is the exception.

I’m skeptical on this one (hope I’m wrong!). All massively successful consumer devices have been better versions of a device that consumers already used. Phone, watch, headphones, speaker, car, exercise bike… Mainstream consumers need one foot rooted in familiarity to adopt.

There’s nothing so permanent as a temporary ops workflow.
