Sometimes people forget that the first year of teaching feels like survival mode. New teachers want to be engaging, so help them cope by mentoring them #teacherleader #EdChat

Grading on a simple rubric (0-7) and being allowed to re-submit work after addressing feedback has made a difference for my HS Ss. Maybe there should be a shift for more accurate grading #edchat

Just had a student make the key to a math quiz - she was STOKED AND CORRECT and did a great job. I may try to get them involved in actually planning lessons some more

I think that equitable grading is key to student success and teacher wellness. A solid, simple rubric goes a long way to encourage students AND teachers.

Does it really matter when students turn stuff in? Not really. Just take it when they finish it, give feedback, and take it again. A grade is about learning, not time. If you want to assess soft skills, have a category for that.

How awesome is Pear Deck Learning?! I’ve been using it for a week and one student said under his breath, “We should have been doing this all along.” I thought it was too juvenile to use with HS students, but my students (low to high) love it.

So, reading a lot of research latey and keep coming across the term ‘culturally responsive teaching’. Everyone seems to use it differently, so I’m asking - what does it look like? #edchat

John Clark (@jpgclark) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I feel weird because I LIKE virtual learning. I do miss my Ss, but I feel like I have more time and availability to get with them 1:1. #edchat #distancelearning

Ever notice Ts aim for perfection? Maybe excellence is better or even just mastering SKILLS? Thinking hard how Ts and Ss put so much on themselves that passion becomes suffering. Does it have to be that way? #edchat #MentalHealthMatters #teacherlife

Teaching a course on #diversity in #education and I find it odd the Ss seem oblivious to the need/desire for culturally relevant pedagogy. I find it challenging for a white, cis male to explain personal experience for the desire of other groups. #edchat, Any tips or experiences?
