This morning, participants of the #gfmdd23 visited the Senate of the Republic of Mexico. Senator Patricia Mercado gave insights on the citizens’ consultations in #mexico. #democracy #CDMX

In the Palacio de Medicina the plenary conference „What are the mechanisms of direct democracy, and how do they work in reality?“ started. Many direct democracy advocates shared their expertise on the panel. Marie Jünemann from Mehr Demokratie e.V. shared best practices from Berlin.

In the afternoon, 10 workshops and panels take place. Over 50 speakers from all around the world exchange and learn from each other. The sessions include topics such as „How good is direct democracy for sustainability?“ & „How digital technology is giving people power today?“

Today the #gfmdd23 takes place on the TEC de Monterrey Campus. During the panels and workshops, voices from all around the world are heard. „Between elections I want to keep up the dialogue between citizens, especially topics related to the EU“ - participant. #democracy

„South Korean Lunch Break“ at the #gfmdd23. Evolutionary process of participatory and direct democracy through cooperation is the topic to be discussed. Interesting insights on South Korea + direct democracy developments are given by experts.

Questions such as „Can direct democracy provide youth a path to decision-making power?“ or „Are the courts tough enough for direct democracy?“ were raised and discussed all day long at the #gfmdd23. #democracy #cdmx #globalforumdd

It’s the last day of the #gfmdd23. One last time everyone gathers - today in the @INEMexico headquarters. “Electoral bodies can be key allies in the exercise of direct democracy. What is the institutional infrastructure we need to build to enable this?” - is the first topic.
