ICYMI reflections on some recent HE sector mergers highlighting the importance of not waiting too long and the need for brave leadership to protect the mission of an institution even that means losing its independence in a blog for Higher Education Policy Institute hepi.ac.uk/2024/08/26/a-t…

Exactly. There is better data out there now which means there's no excuse. (E.g. HEPI's own Minimum Income Standard). Whole thread is worth reading below.

It's party conference season! I'll be out and about at Lib Dem conference today and tomorrow. If you're here and fancy a coffee, drop me a message!

Ed Davey is LIVE now at Lib Dem conference. Biggest applause so far on continued support for replacing the electoral system: "So won't be a Nigel-Ed team-up to campaign for electoral reform?" "He just can't jet-ski."

Awkward moment for Davey. The moderator asks the audience to raise their hands if they would rejoining the EU - almost everyone raises their hands. Davey famously pivoted from it after disappointment in 2019. But warm applause when he says it's about rebuilding trust in Europe.

Up bright and early with Education Policy Institute and Magic Breakfast looking at how school food can tackle the disadvantage gap. It's a hugely topical issue especially after yesterday's discussions saw SEND support highlighted as one on our biggest current challenges.

Topical piece on the blog this morning. Colleagues QAA and others demonstrate the viability of partnership provision by co-writing a blog with no less than six sponsoring organisations. Read it below ⬇️⬇️

Absolutely delighted to be taking the Universities and Skills spokesperson role in Ed’s team! With huge challenges in higher education, and too many being let down by poor skills provision, I’m looking forward to being part of a proper, constructive opposition to the government.
