How do climbing animals run with sticky feet? The short answer is: we don't really know... The slightly longer answer, hot off the press: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… (and free here: repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/29…)

Who wants an abstract? #science #PhD Thanks to SfN Journals #JNeurosci, Joseph Fabian, Bernard Evans, my supervisors David O'Carroll & Steven Wiederman and everyone else who made this first paper (of many!) possible. But most of all, thanks to the dragonflies for being so cool

Strong rep for #dragonfly #sensorysystems at #ausneuro2019! Feature detection in natural scenes from Bernard Evans, fly-by-feel mechanosensors from Joseph Fabian and distraction avoidance from me! Thanks to everyone to spoke to one (or all!) Of us during the poster sessions!.

If you are interested in learning about the fancy brains of dragonflies, my new manuscript preprint is now available on biorxiv. Stay safe friends ❤️❤️ biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

My new paper is out in scientific reports. New data suggesting some dragonfly STMD neurons might be using a burst code to track moving objects. In doing so, they avoid some of the limitations involved in rate coding. nature.com/articles/s4159…

If you have ever wondered how tiny animals like dragonflies control their flight with incredible precision, our latest preprint investigates one major factor - the elaborate sensor system residing inside their wings. Read more here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Imperial Dragonfly Lab

Every policy maker, every promotion/hiring panel, and every scientist should read this paper by J Chu and James Evans. "The more-is-better, quantity metric-driven nature of today’s scientific enterprise may ironically retard fundamental progress" pnas.org/content/118/41…

There are only 6 working days left of the year, and about 5,000 researchers don’t know if they’ll have a job next year. 7,000 uni researchers have already lost their job during the pandemic. We can’t afford to lose any more brilliant minds.
