The #SBC2023 is clearly not egalitarian. Given the recent votes, it’s also becoming the denomination that excludes soft complimentarians. Soon, only the strictest comps will be left because their type of thinking is always reforming and drawing new standards of orthodoxy.

After reflecting on the week, the biggest issue facing the #SBC is NOT unqualified women serving as pastors (and there are a few); the biggest issue is unqualified men serving as pastors (of which there are many more, i.e.-“self-controlled, respectable…gentle, not quarrelsome”)

This is truly exciting! If the Major League Soccer doesn’t consider going in on this, they will be left behind. This is what makes football competitive, local, and fun. Every team has a chance to rise or fall! USL will surpass MLS if they don’t work together.

What 10+ years of ministry and theological education has taught me is that there is no simple theology. Everything is more complicated than it seems and nuanced. It makes me long for the day when we are living in the presence of God, not having to speculate, theorize, or argue.

For the SBC to regain moral authority, it will at a minimum need to fire the people who keep using their power and position to protect themselves. Then it needs to fill those positions with leaders who have a demonstrated commitment to justice, righteousness, and sacrificial

A good reminder from Kevin P. Emmert on the formative power of the sacraments on our self-understanding and identity. crossway.org/articles/the-s…

Historically, most Baptists affirmed a spiritual presence view of the Lord's Supper, broadly similar to John Calvin's. Here is a historical overview, encouraging Baptists to reclaim this aspect of our heritage. youtu.be/qGIRjz5qSpA

This saddens me. We need women’s voices in scholarship and ministry, without it, who knows what the Church would become. Throughout all of Christian History, women have played a vital role in the church, even when societally unacceptable.

Teaching on Matthew 22: The Parable of the Wedding Feast tomorrow and will be bringing up theologians like Bonhoeffer, JC Ryle, Augustine, and Tim Keller. Chrysostom almost made the cut.

I love Advent. Here is a beautiful visualization of the liturgical calendar. Pastor, what an opportunity to take your people through the scriptures and story of the gospel.

I can’t recommend Gavin Ortlund enough. I find that he is a helpful Biblical voice in an age where people are being drawn to “hyper” versions of their respective camps. This review is excellent and spot on, even his concerns.

If you’ve been taught EFS (eternal functional subordination of Son), I pray this is liberating news: You can let go of EFS and that does not mean you are rejecting complementarianism. If you need support, look to the innumerable orthodox examples across ancient history.
