The first responsibility of a university is to protect the physical safety of its students. Calling in armed police in riot gear to suppress a student protest fails that basic responsibility, unless the students are a clear physical danger to others on campus.

These laws, and the chilling effect that couples them, offer permission structures for more repressive laws with further chilling effect. This is not a moment to get through, it is a moment to consider the role of education in a society we proclaim we want. Education4All

If I were a college president, I would just not send armed city cops in riot gear to arrest my students for protesting.
