Two Red Listed birds - House Martin & House Sparrow absolutely thriving on the side of this hotel. Why? Because there is cover in the form of Ivy & the correct overhang of roof trusses. We MUST change our construction methods to ensure nature can thrive alongside us

A wading bird, more commonly known as a coastal species, this little oystercatcher recently took up residence at our Stanninghall Quarry, in #Norwich. It’s not the 1st time they’ve been spotted either – with the team having seen nesting birds and fledglings since 2017! 🐦🐣

Lack of understanding of the connection between biodiversity loss and climate change leads to poor decisions; renewables being rolled out as a 'top trumps' in the debate for what goes where. Must stop climate solutions from killing biodiversity ft.com/content/755d79…

Every month, throughout the year, I choose a day to record all the plants flourishing in our meadow - once an agricultural field. Appreciatively, I pick one of each that can spare a bloom. Today I counted 78 species, most of which are represented here. #WildflowerHour #rewild 💚

In partnership with @ydmt, 30 volunteers from our North & Scotland region completed 110 hours removing redundant plastic guards as part of the YDMT’s Plastic Free Woodlands project, in the #YorkshireDales 🌲 They also spotted some cute red squirrels running around the woods 👀🐿️

A visit to RSPB Langford Lowfields to view reedbed work. With c40 ha of up to 90 created in old mineral workings, this is one for the future. An excellent design: good reed/water interface & benefits from River Trent overtopping bringing in fish. 3 Bittern nests in 2023 #23in23

After a summer of wildfire and floods, and records broken here in the UK, yesterday's announcement is barely fathomable. Future generations will ask why, after these stark signs, the government would put this country’s global leadership on climate change into reverse. Fairness

Electrofishing survey at Nosterfield NR reedbed. A small site but excellent habitat structure: deep ditches & pools, superb aquatic macrophytes. Perch & Rudd biomass of 15.6 kg/ha, above target 10 kg for Bittern breeding sites (& a grounded Red-throated Diver) Nosterfield Nature Reserve

Thornborough Henges in North Yorkshire has been reunited 🎉 We’ve acquired the 3rd & final henge meaning that public access across the entirety of this major Neolithic site is guaranteed. It is a remarkable survivor from the prehistoric past & we can’t wait to share its stories.

Great article highlighting the positive results of efforts to conserve declining species, RSPB, and partners. 👏Dr Carles Caboneras, whom I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago. birdguides.com/news/european-…

Great to join Natural England colleagues at Langford Lowfields to see how a partnership between Tarmac & RSPB is transforming the impact of sand & gravel extraction to benefit Nature. Many lessons for how housing & infrastructure can be harnessed for Nature recovery

A lot of what is said about Nature holding up development is simply not true. It’s wrong. False. At best misleading. If you’ve heard that newts are a cause of our national housing shortage, read this from Natural England naturalengland.blog.gov.uk/2026/01/14/bui…
