The Pirates are the cause and cure to all of my issues. Mostly the cause.

Once Schwarber signs, I think a lot of teams pivot to other options, including the Pirates. If he signs during the Winter Meetings, some interesting activity could follow. We’ll see.

I’d be very interested in CJ Abrams if he can play 2B. He isn’t going to be a SS for this team with Griffin on the horizon. He’s a really good player.

The Pirates aren’t gonna sign Schwarber (probably). Their best course of action would be to instead aggressively pursue free agents on the next tier or aggressively pursue trades. They don’t have to get a top free agent. They just need to fix this lineup in a very meaningful way.

Hopefully Ben Cherington can get some things done soon. I love the aggressiveness but have to close some deals or it means nothing.

There is so much buzz about the Pirates out there in the market and it’s fun but until something actually happens, it’s all noise ultimately. I did like the Oviedo trade. Have to build on that. I’m very interested to see what they do.

Robert Murray says the Pirates are surveying the bullpen market. That makes sense. We talk bats all the time but they really do need bullpen help too.

It sounds like it’s possible Schwarber could go down at the Winter Meetings and many teams are waiting for that domino to fall before pivoting to their plan B. The Pirates are among those teams.

Whoa. The Pirates offered Schwarber $30M per year on a 4-year contract. That’s very significant from an AAV standpoint. Probably won’t be good enough without the 5th year though

If the Astros are willing to discuss Isaac Paredes and have interest in Mike Burrows, maybe a deal could be made there. I’m a big fan of Paredes

Pirates offer had the AAV but not the 5th year and the appeal of returning to where he’s comfortable. Oh well. Now it’s time to pivot

With Schwarber off the board, many expect a lot of dominoes to fall in the market as so many teams were in on him and will pivot to their next plans. Interested to see what the Pirates do now.

The Pirates should definitely be open to moving Burrows in the right deal for a bat. Only the right deal though. It has to make sense.

People dunking on the Pirates for offering Schwarber probably the most competitive offer he got besides the one he took in Philly is funny to me. You joke they are cheap but they really gave this one a try. Offered the same AAV that he wound up taking. Just one less year.
