Great paper demonstrating better quality assoc w/ PE in fertility, where corporate & patient interests may be relatively aligned

Will be important to study PE price effects too, as IVF is OOP for many. E.g., embryo storage fees are $$$, with “captive” base as many pay for years)

Ever wonder why your insurer charges a copay for statins (and other high-value meds)?

Don’t they want to prevent heart attacks, strokes, etc?

Copays never made sense to me.

In this new paper in QJE, we show copays kill. 🧵

Led by Yashaswini Singh, PhD, we find that half of PE acquisitions across three specialties sold within THREE years, after an average 595% growth in the number of practice sites.

And at this juncture, almost all were secondary sales to another, often larger, PE firm.👇Health Affairs

📢New paper alert! PE firms invest in physician practices to generate outsized returns on exit.

But what does exit look like? Over what timeline?

Measuring this activity has been difficult due to no transparency. My paper fills these gaps.

Important point in the JAMA Health Forum on how insurance network bureaucracy undermines access to mental/behavioral health care.

A couple of examples - what this actually looks like for a primary care group that wants to meet patients' BH needs...

🚨New NBER with Andrew Olenski on major hidden profits in the healthcare sector! Bear with me as I explain how nursing homes are able to hide almost 2/3 of their profits from regulators and the public! I promise it's worth it!
