Hough End Hall, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester. c.1596 by Sir Nicholas Mosley. In mid-1960s, with van. In 1999, with tall trees. In 2012 & later. Now an academy & mosque. Ancient Monuments Society formed in 1924 because of it's state, and Pevsner was appalled in 1969 VAG

C16th Robert Hall, Tatham, N.E Lancs. Clockwise: N side shows hall in late C19th. Now a barn with truck outside. Former cross-passage with pointed arch doorway is timber-framed inside. Corbelled chimney stack is for 1st floor fireplace. Nr Bentham YVBSG VAG

Barker House Farm, Lancaster University. Much altered farmhouse dated 1691 (the '9' is wrong way round). A wealth of re-used cruck timbers. Fireplace lintel - a type usually seen as a doorhead. Now used for quiet studies. VAG

Article in SPAB Magazine, that arrived today. Parker's Farm, Rishton, nr Accrington, Lancashire. Listed Grade 2*, has not been lived in since the 1930s. Shares a farmyard with two occupied farmhouses. Belongs to the Dunkenhalgh Estate. Much historic fabric inside. VAG

Yesterday I went to Hesketh End Farmhouse, Chipping, Lancashire, dated 1591 & Listed Grade 1. Many long and short Latin inscriptions, referring English history from the Romans to the Saxons. Decorative interlacing window lintels and several big gaping gargoyles. VAG
