Leftists, enlighten me: If electoralism is nothing more than how the ruling class falsifies legitimacy, why was it ever important to fight for the voting rights of people of color and women? And why is it important now that we resist Republican efforts to deny voting rights?

The idea that Ds should have bailed out McCarthy is a codicil of the larger logic of DC punditry in which R bad behavior/destruction is assumed, a baseline like weather, and Ds managing the consequences of that behavior is a given. It’s part of DC being hardwired for the GOP.

It's startling how effectively the internet has gaslighted people into thinking that preserving strong institutions is totally ineffective against the far-right and that street vigilantism is the only proven method of stopping them despite literally the opposite being true.

The thing that puzzles me most about extremist politics is the romanticization of armed struggle by, or on behalf of, people with no military power. As soon as you say “this issue can only be settled through force,” you accept that the stronger force will prevail.
