The NIH's literal mission: to prevent disease, to expand the knowledge base in medical and associated sciences, and to enhance the nation's economic well-being, and ensure a continued high return on the public investment in research. #DividedWeFall science.org/content/articl…

Incorrect. As I've been told by any number of Fortune 100 executives, if they did this sort of basic research and experimental projects, they would be fired as soon as the next quarterly report came out. They're forced to focus on the bottom line and squeezing margins.

A Message to Elon Musk Elon Musk and DOGE from a Mother of a boy named Max. Please at least give it a read and reconsider haphazardly freezing funding on important government programs: "Elon, this perfect little boy is my son Max. He's not a parasite. He's pure joy. Love

This is illegal. The courts put a restraining older on halting NIH funding and the federal register is making an end-run around that, killing new grants or renewals. Unchallenged, it’ll lead to layoffs of scientists & support staff. Will disrupt nondilutive biotech funding too.

The archetype of the scientist who sacrifices everything might’ve been romantic 50 years ago when there weren’t alternative high paying jobs. If we won’t make science FUN, reduce bureaucracy, and make it easier to secure funding and publish, few will stay in academia.

What are the ground truths on diet’s impact on the gut microbiome? There are surprisingly few, but the ones that exist are remarkably robust.
