If left untouched tariffs (which are not reciprocal) will cause a deep recession in the US. It’s unclear whether this is a negotiating tactic, given the goal is to reduce trade deficits and raise tax revenue. Very pessimistic with this backdrop.

I think the market’s reaction today is less about China’s retaliation in and of itself and more about the fact that it reduces the probability of US Tariffs getting reduced. Trade wars take more time to sort out than trade deals.

Tactical trading idea: Get long Vietnam. US wants to weaken China, and Vietnam is aggressively trying to make a deal. Their could be a massive realignment in US trade from China to Vietnam. Thoughts?
