Bad news from @AGU23 on heatwaves in talk by Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick from Canberra School of Science. We are in for much more and worse heatwaves than we can imagine even if we fulfil current NDCs.

NOAA has published its first estimate of the growth in global-average CO₂ concentration for 2023, at +2.81 ppm. GlobalCarbonProject's forecast was 2.4 ppm, the average of a time-series analysis giving 2.39 and an ESM multi-model mean giving 2.41. Let's unpack this.

The fraction of carbon that stays in the atmosphere can be measured, & there seems to be a slight trend of more staying in the atmosphere. We can estimate with data & models if that is due to the land or ocean, but it is hard to tell. Why? 1/
