New from Dr. Hawra Al-Lawati, Westyn Branch-Elliman, M.D., MMSc., FSHEA, others: Discover insights on operationalizing an Adverse Event Detection Surveillance System for Antimicrobial Stewardship. Learn more in our latest research article. #AntimicrobialStewardship #PatientSafety. 📄: doi.org/10.1017/ice.20…

New from David Banach and others Nurses’ thorough documentation of penicillin allergies was highly acceptable and improved following an implementation strategy. Authors offer implementation strategy components to foster adoption. 📄: doi.org/10.1017/ice.20…

Most studies testing LLMs in medicine out there rely on simulated clinical cases. We tested one of the first PHI-approved LLMs at Stanford Medicine for identifying CLABSI using real notes. With minimal info and over 5 minutes per case, it showed 90% sensitivity and 75% specificity.

Thrilled to see this out in print! It was a privilege to collaborate with this team team. Special thanks to Dr. Branch-Elliman for her invaluable mentorship Westyn Branch-Elliman, M.D., MMSc., FSHEA

In Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, we, healthcare epidemiologists from 21 major health systems, outline recs to align #covid return-to-work guidance with other resp illnesses. This is one of the last vestiges of COVID exceptionalism in hospitals. Led by Katie Passaretti. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

With Lauren Epstein, in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, we outline how healthcare facilities can prepare for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (#BirdFlu), using lessons from #covid about what works and what doesn’t. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Great, pragmatic piece about #avianflu by Lauren Epstein & Shira Doron MD in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology. Key points- be honest, stay calm, rapidly address testing capacity & vaccine distribution to support public health response. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

New in ICHE from Nenad Macesic et al VRE is found in the hospital environment and in patients. But is it always the same? This study found distinct reservoirs - patients had vanA VRE while environment was dominated by vanB VRE. 📄: cambridge.org/core/journals/…
