Our #LivingInACovidWorld report will be published on Wednesday, 16 March. This report looks back over all the Committee’s work, since it was established in May 2020.

The Committee received: Over 500 pieces of written evidence. Oral evidence from over 80 witnesses. Views from hundreds of researchers. Opinions from thousands of people through social media. This has informed the recommendations in our #LivingInACovidWorld report.

Ahead of our report launch, we are going to look back at some of the Committee’s work, over the last 18 months or so.

Eight broad themes emerged from the Committee’s initial work: Inequality and poverty Digital technology Children and young people Work and employment Mental health and wellbeing The environment The built environment and green spaces Healthcare and social care.

Our #BeyondDigital inquiry explored how our increasing reliance on digital technology – exacerbated by the pandemic – would have a long-term impact on our wellbeing, particularly our physical health, mental health, social interaction and working life.

Our #ParentsAndFamilies inquiry concentrated on the impact of school closures, reduced opportunities for social and leisure activities outside the home, home working and furlough on families.

Our letter to the Children and Families Minister, highlighted the lack of attention and resources being given to support infants and pre-school children to recover from the pandemic’s effects - committees.parliament.uk/publications/6…

Our #TownsAndCities inquiry explored the long-term impact of the pandemic on large towns and smaller cities, concentrating particularly on housing and green spaces, the changing nature of employment, public transport, and the resulting impact on inequality.

Our report advocates for increased power and resources for local authority leaders, a blended approach to regeneration in our towns and cities, and putting tackling inequalities at the heart of the regeneration agenda - committees.parliament.uk/publications/8…

Throughout its work, the COVID-19 Committee has: Asked 300 questions to 83 witnesses; and Received 540 pieces of written evidence.
