Being a macroeconomist before everything went online was a bliss: You were not seeing stunning pictures constantly reminding you that you were not at the Jackson Hole Conference.

New markups paper alert! 👇👇👇👇 How do markups vary over time along the supply chain? To address this question, I'm very excited to share a new working paper from the HBS Pricing Lab, joint with Santiago Alvarez Blaser, Alex MacKay, and Paolo Mengano: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Cleaning up my office and and digging out this classic (reissue). It is still astonishing that that the main figures are fold-outs. The period is 1867-1960, which one should bear in mind when students claim that there exists no data before the 1990s. #econtwitter #economics

You don't hear very often this kind of reflections on economics' methodology. So interesting to hear Tom Sargent talking about Lucas' approach to macro (today at NYU) tomsargent.com/research/Macro…

#dkpol #uddpol

some of the outfits on the right have bad color choices. but most conspicuously, they are missing ties, which makes the outfits look very plain.

Exactly - it is the price level that matters. Statements like “inflation is over”, don’t make sense to most, when butter is up x%. A side benefit will be the utter irrelevance of trying to determine the appropriate lags, weights and stuff when evaluating inflation news. 😀
