Just discovered that ex MicroEcology Lab PhD student Daniel Wangpraseurt is on exhibition in the Heron Island Research Station library👍😉 Daniel was doing in situ micro sensing on the reef flat in full scuba gear in shallow waters aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.431…

MicroEcology Lab lab in collab with Soeren Ahmerkamp introducing #mob7 participants to our techniques at Heron Island Research Station - can you insert a microsensor into a tiny cavity without breaking it?

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 7th Microscale Ocean Biophysics meeting on Heron Island Research Station and those who supported the conference and workshops. Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef an inspiring location to discuss microscale marine processes. Science at Melbourne UTS C3 Moore Foundation

Back from 5 intensive weeks at Heron Island Research Station all about fieldwork, microscale observations, stunning sunsets, and starring nights 💫 Looking forward to share some science soon 🪸 MicroEcology Lab The Company of Biologists

So good to be back at this paradise Heron Island Heron Island Research Station , excited to see third year Griffith University marine capstone students get here to start their projects!

Back on #HeronIsland for the annual Griffith Science & Environment Capstone field course. We are excited to be here, as always, but it is incredibly sad to see the extensive coral bleaching...

Lots of lemon sharks hanging around Heron Island to welcome the third year Griffith Science & Environment students as they get started on their research projects! Heron Island Research Station

The Great Barrier Reef is a dichotomy: on one hand, still beautiful and filled with amazing creatures, but climate change is killing huge swathes of coral not obvious to most but very clear to scientists (as in this picture). We need climate action now Heron Island Research Station Griffith Science & Environment

Students off to collect data on parrot fish feeding preferences during the Griffith Science & Environment field course at #HeronIsland. Another gorgeous day in the field Heron Island Research Station. Griffith University

Thank-you Dr. Charlotte Page for sharing your research Heron Island Research Station on the effects of thermal stess on corals with our Griffith Science & Environment students. Our students were inspired and excited to see where a career in marine science can take you! Dr Tracy Ainsworth A/Prof. @UNSW Science

Strong winds have made fieldwork challenging but the fine weather has returned, and our Griffith Science & Environment marine capstone students are heading out on the water to spend another afternoon collecting data. Heron Island Research Station

Your regular reminder that it's a myth sharks have to swim to breathe. These white tip reef sharks love to chill under overhangs for hours on end, and you can find many around Heron Island doing just that. Griffith Science & Environment Griffith University Heron Island Research Station

And that's a wrap! We're heading home from Heron Island Research Station after another successful Griffith University Marine Capstone field course. Our students have developed new skills and gained experience and confidence in field based research. A fun week in a stunning location! Griffith Science & Environment

Always great to see critically endangered White-spotted guitarfish hanging around at Heron Island Research Station. Just one of the many amazing animals students were exposed to during their Capstone projects. Despite looking very sharky, these animals are actually rays! Griffith Science & Environment

Just wrapped up a super intense week Heron Island Research Station setting up my final PhD field study 🪸 sleepless nights filled with respirometry incubations all made worth it to witness those Heron sunsets ☀️ BIG thanks to Dr. Wyatt Million Gemma M Gillette ✨ watch this space! 👀📉
