The Kingston Humane Society’s celebrating their 140th anniversary today, so I took my ol’ doggie (who we adopted from KHS) downtown for the big party.

Another reason I love Kingston’s small businesses: We went to Coffee Way on my daughter’s birthday (as always) a while ago and the cashier happened to overhear we were celebrating. She told us to wait, grabbed the biggest glazed donut, ran to the back, and created this cake.

I remember watching that first David Letterman after 9/11. Just wanting something familiar in an awfully sad and chaotic time, I guess. The way he got the tone right that night was a helluva thing.
