Visa-free access with numerous countries was achieved under FM Abdulla Shahid through calm, disciplined, yet intense diplomacy. Those qualities are worth recalling, now, when routine matters, like visa extensions with Sri Lanka, are handled through public confrontation.

The question Maldivian citizens are asking today is: where are the dollars the government is receiving? Why is the dollar rate still at 25 MVR when tourist arrivals have increased and fees have been raised?
