MomConnect was established by the SA Dept of Health in 2014 to register pregnancies and provide pregnant and postpartum women with twice-weekly health information text messages as well as access to a helpdesk for queries and feedback.

MomConnect has grown to become one of the largest mHealth initiatives globally; by May 2018 over 1.9 million pregnant women registered in over 95% (3,300) of public health facilities receiving SMS health information messages.

MomConnect has a helpdesk responding to over 100,000 questions and comment. It has received more than 14,000 compliments to the helpdesk - eight times as many as the 1,450 complaints received. Read more at gh.bmj.com/content/3/Supp…
