It's been fifty years since she was elected the first Black female mayor in America! Mayor Lela Foley Davis of Taft, Oklahoma was born in Taft, OK where she became mayor of this "all black town" in 1973. Salute!

The 1st Black settlement in Prairie View, TX is known as Wyatt Chapel, est. 1865. Comprised of formerly enslaved people & their descendants, the small quiet community still exists today. The Wyatt Chapel Church is as a reminder of this rich history. #WyattChapel #thisplacematters

Africatown in Mobile, AL has a unique story to tell. People living there are the descendants of the last slave ship bringing enslaved Africans to America. The ship sank in the bay & now they use boat tours to tell this fascinating story. This is a great place to learn history!
