Anyone know how far hives can be away from field bean for it to be an effective crop? We're only just starting to see it grown in our region (Chinese beef protein/soya prices rocketing so farners growing more of it in this dairy area). Any advice from bean experts appreciated โ˜บ๏ธ

Sharing is caring! Bees going great guns on the field bean ('the bean machine' ยฉ Chris Manton ๐Ÿคฃ) If we get the promised downpours over the weekend followed by hot and humid weather then it should be dripping ๐Ÿฏ

An increasingly sad reality in British beefarming. More hives hit by #cbpv - out burning and then kicking away the pile of dead bees out front as they're a strong vector according to a knowledgeable bee farmer that I know. #nbu and #defra really need to get a grip on this

You know that feeling you have when you're at an out apiary and remember that you didn't close the tap of the extractor earlier and have nightmares about an industrial-sized clean up job mid season ๐Ÿ‘€....so you drop tools there ans then and drive 15 miles at speed only to find...

CBPV update. 8 cases on two sites and all within very good Buckfast and 'dark mongrel' colonies (it doesn't differentiate). As discussed with another large bee farmer down south earlier, it'll probably become notifiable in short order and certainly worries me more than EFB does.

Clearing everything down to just one super having had a very poor Summer nectar flow around these parts (you can tell because last year most colonies had between three and seven supers on them!). One super in case the Gods bestow some fine weather and because we run Buckfast Q's

I put my grills in the freezer for a couple of days then crack off the propolis from the plastic. Sort through your harvest to remove bits of bee and any other rubbish that might of got stuck in the propolis. Then zap in a coffee bean blender attachment to the liquidizer.
