One of the oldest effigies in Yorkshire. The legs were chopped off to make room for a new pulpit by the 18C "restorers" and Sir John was relegated sideways to the north wall of St Martin's, Bulmer.

One of the oldest churches in North Yorkshire: St Gregory's Minster, Kirkdale. Fantastic sundial above the door, surviving from C11. My old English isn't quite up to scratch, but apparently the inscription tells of its decay & dilapidation before its restoration in c1060

... a more serious aspect of my thesis, migration and mobility in York. Lots of short-distance migration and parish swapping! #PaSymp21

An eerie replica of a gibbet in Northumberland and the surviving base of a medieval cross. Last person hung was William Winter in 1791 for the murder of Margaret Crozier, giving it its name "Winter's Gibbet"
