It was a privilege to be a an occasional colleague of Scott Wampler at BirthMoviesDeath, he kept in touch after the fact. Met him just once at Fantastic Fest; he is, quite simply, one of The Realest Mufuckas I will ever meet. Wampler, you are loved and you will be missed.

This idea became extra real to me at my first white belt competition. Despite the extra time put in the gym and on the mat, that feeling of gassing out after two minutes mid-match I’ll never forget. My body absolutely refused to listen to my brain.

That was me. Still one of the best.

Kitano’s 90s filmography hit me more than his other films. Hanabi stands above all for me, featuring Hisaishi’s best work outside Ghibli.

I know QT loves his characters and you especially see it when he’s vocal about certain ones. But the way he shoots their scenes together (plus the final shot) was when that love felt the greatest. To me, at least.
