I don’t know if I have to spell out the point I’m making but… Focusing on times doesn’t mean anything when trying to grow the sport. Even people already sitting at track meets don’t have a grasp of what a good time is in half of the events. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Whenever I hear of foods being labeled as good or bad, I think of the milkshake study. Where being told it was a nutritious shake or an indulgent ice cream shake shifted satiety hormones...even though it was the same shake. Our perception and expectations influence biology.

Morningside College had runners winning national titles and national runner ups every year fueled by Peanut Butter M&Ms before every hard workout. The best life and my fondest college memories.

When I got my first cell phone in 2006. I had a basketball cover case on it. I paid to have "You Shook Me All Night Long" as my ringtone. Now? My iPhones been on silent since 2014. Times have changed.

One word that changed everything for me? "Muditā" It means finding joy in others' success. Celebrating when your teammates, friends, and family win as if their victory is your own. In nearly 50 years of baseball, I've learned that the most successful teams aren't just

Out of everything Grand Slam has done, it’s the bringing together the best 800 and 1500 runners to compete in non-paced races over both distances that has been the best. It’s exciting and engaging. This is a sport people will watch.

The more you run, the fewer excuses you find not to run. You just do it. You find time to run. Some days you’re more motivated than others, but you almost forget you have the choice not to. It gets hard wired into your programming. I assume a lot of other runners feel the same.

When things go wrong, do you spiral… or do you act?

Elite performers are better at shifting from “why is this happening?” to “what can I do next?”

They regulate emotions by taking action. They don’t avoid stress, they move

Dig deeper into action orientation and you see four core tools: -They can generate positive emotions to get unstuck. -They downregulate negative ones before they spiral. -They reframe problems through cognitive reappraisal. -And they shift attention toward what matters. This

When a kid skips summer training… that’s selfish. Your friends want to be competitive at those first meets regardless of their “importance”. I imagine the best XC teams go all-in TOGETHER. Help your teammates reach their goals. Hold yourself accountable. Be part of something.

Being a coach means giving your time, belief, and heart so kids can grow into the best version of themselves. The reward? Watching them discover strength, resilience & confidence they never knew they had. That’s what coaching really is.

"The food you eat is poisoning you" "The water you drink is full of microplastics poisoning you" "The clothes you wear also have microplastics" "Technology is causing cancer" - Me at least I'm running that's good. "Also too much running is bad for you"

Personally I'm a little distraught. Taggart VanEtten + Alex Predhome, Vagueposter talked a lot of crap about beating high schoolers over the past couple weeks to beat a combined 0 high school kids today... what's overtraining for if not racing local teens?!?

Speaking from experience as a HS distance running coach… I’ve always felt good things start happening at 30 mpw. Once that has been established, for an entire season, continue moving the needle.
