Green Line (East West Metro) had started with a JV between WB Govt, GOI Urban Development Ministry and JBIC in 2009. However there was no progress, hence Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee decided to acquire the share of WB Govt in 2010 - the project received a fresh lease of life

Not only were the projects announced, she ensured that a massive sum of 10000 Cr is allocated for the Metro lines in 2 Railway Budgets itself (2011-12 and 2012-13).

However, the funds were squeezed in the corresponding budgets announced by UPA 2 (after TMC withdrew support) and then the 3 NDA Govts leading to slow progress of the projects.

Ultimately the lines were completed and CRS approvals were recieved, but we had to wait long and long for PM NAFED India to come and inaugurate, since he wanted just few months before the elections.
