Regime change is good, actually. As wrote a year ago, and said for years, promoting the downfall of the world's most repressive and murderous regimes should be the declared goal of the free world. Authoritarianism is the evil that begets all others, from war to poverty to famine.

It’s not a moral crusade. The world is far safer when dictators are afraid and democracies are bold. Since 1992, the free world has possessed unmatched economic, military, and cultural power. Instead of pressing that advantage, we became complacent and allowed evil to rise again.

What many Americans, and most citizens of democracies, fail to understand is how autocracies communicate. It has little to do with the real world. Trump's only audience are his followers. The only audience for Trump's sycophants and officials is Trump. Reality is irrelevant.
