The DWP are extending my PIP award due to Covid. While this is good news, it proves that their insistence on shorter awards and more assessment was always an ideological choice not based in evidence. They just want you to jump through hoops to suit themselves 😒

You can always tell who has never met a disabled person before when they truly believe non-disabled people can “abuse the system” 😂😂😂😂

You dedicate all of your adult life to having the shortest hair possible only for lockdown to mean being punched in the face by a ponytail multiple times a day #hardfemmeproblems

So busy literally taking notes on the gold Yomi Adegoke was talking to Kiley Reid about on writing tonight I forgot I was dyeing my hair until the developer started to burn almost 90 minutes in. Beats a salon, literary or beauty anytime!

We know men don’t talk about women’s safety. Let’s talk about why certain women are only interested in women’s safety now but have spent years making women they feel are lesser than them unsafe? My disabled sex worker survivor self is seeing such hypocrisy today on here...

4. The officer in charge of the operation was Cressida Dick - who gave the shoot to kill order - and was then given a promotion to become Commissioner. A clear message to the family that the police can act with impunity when they kill black/brown people. theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/f…

Where was this energy when the women in my estate in South London had police dogs set on them at 2am in lockdown one? Oh I remember, that got called a riot on the BBC News when it was a protest for BLM and to remember another murder victim?

If this week is your realisation that the Met and the police protects only its own, then please take a moment to consider the privilege of that amidst your shock. Listen to those who knew already and join the work we have started to feel powerful instead of helpless

Gauke (@gherkinette) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If a man who had the police called on him for domestic abuse while Prime Minister thinks Cressida Dick is doing a good job, a) why is he still in his job and b) how are you shocked she isn’t an ally to women? 😒

My condolences to all who loved and respected Sarah Hughes as a person and a writer and more. She was always immensely kind to me and incredibly irreverantly encouraging. The internet is a little duller without her

This is the queue for second dose extremely clinically vulnerable people at St Thomas’s right now due to bringing doses forward due to concerns about vaccine supply. It is the queue to register your time slot not even the vaccine. Disabled people are freezing cold. No marshals

Hmmmm, do I watch too much rolling news if I can tell which newsreaders have their hair cut post lockdown after which shift they last worked? (Spoiler alert: definitely 😂)

Gauke (@gherkinette) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I cannot say it enough. The reason to watch BBC News right now is Larry Madowo reporting from the US. His journalism is superb. He is also a natty dresser while drilling down the info.

Oh Royal Bank I understand the need for security but new debit cards that need chip & pin activation is not accessible to high risk disabled people right now. Why was this aspect not considered mid pandemic? I was given no warning and almost left with no access to any groceries

Gauke (@gherkinette) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Twitter: what apart from a card would be a good way to show my thanks to the medical receptionists at my surgery who have been AMAZING over the pandemic? A card doesn’t feel enough but not sure what gives them a treat as well as thanks?

How had I not seen this piece by the late great Lyra McKee for littleatoms until now? littleatoms.com/lyra-mckee-we-… She will never not be a terrible loss to the world especially Northern Ireland

Has anyone ever actually had an email not send/arrive (barring those with actual mail delivery failure notes) that wasn’t ‘sorry, I didn’t actually send it but am pretending I did’ excuses? Because apparently the internet is flakier than Airmail in 1981?

Anyone know anywhere in London (pref South) that will take donations of used but good condition bed linens like fitted sheets and duvet covers? I have spares and as a former homeless person would like them to be useful to others

Very sadden to hear awful the news of a Black Woman, #JohanitaDogbey that was murdered in Brixton on Monday. It was a random attack from behind by a man and there has been hardly any coverage of the news. #blackfemicide #VAWG standard.co.uk/news/crime/bri…
