The intentional use of the starvation of civilians as a method of waging war is a war crime. This week I urged the United Nations Security Council to seek accountability for these atrocious acts, and to remind parties to conflict of their obligations under international humanitarian law.

The United Nations humanitarian operation in Syria is currently the biggest in the world. Today, I urged the members of the Security Council to reach consensus to allow for effective access, through all possible channels, to the millions of Syrians in need of humanitarian assistance.

I welcome the Security Council’s decision to extend the United Nations cross-border mechanism in north-west Syria via the Bab al-Hawa border crossing. This will ensure humanitarian assistance continues for over 3.4 million people in need, including 1 million children.

Very happy & proud to see this. The deconfliction-Humanitarian notification system which we built OCHA Yemen is the backbone of the humanitarian operations in the country. It enables the humanitarian organizations to continue delivering much needed aid under difficult conditions.

We owe it to present and future generations to transform education so everyone, everywhere has the skills they need to succeed. In Nigeria with Malala Yousafzai—meeting with girls and teachers in classrooms and with local communities and government officials.

To our United Nations colleagues and friends, To the families, To the children, To the doctors, We take a moment to remember those we lost and stand with those who are fighting for their survival and safety. We pray for peace in Palestine.
