The magic of speaking another language… having a lovely chat with an 80+ yr old chap in a small town in Mallorca in an even smaller art exhibition right opposite where we’re staying which only opens 7-8.30pm #mfl #mfltwitterati

This drawing took quite a while to complete, it’s made up of thousands of tiny marks. Available in my shop, bespoke framed with museum quality glass and ready to hang. claireleach.com/shop

***New Post*** I have had this swirling around for a few weeks. I wasn't sure about writing it up & sharing it as it feels a little raw for some at the moment, possibly due to some significant changes coming, or simply as they have had enough. However, here it is in next post

Looking at A level grade boundaries. To get an A Star grade in French (AQA), you must average 90%. The highest of any subject. To get an E grade, 42%. Imagine getting a U with 41%. In Chemistry, 20% is an E. 42% is a C. #ResultsDay2025 No wonder students are not taking MFL…

I hope A level results went well this morning. As I read analysis here and there, I'm always very much in favour of creating a separate language exam for native speakers. It's so unfair on all the others. AQA, Pearson Edexcel, up for the challenge? We need action!

The graph and the links will help you explain why MFL is a grade lower than pupils' other subjects. It's simply the fact that MFL is allocated lower grades. Targets this year may not have reflected this because they were homemade targets. whoteacheslanguages.blogspot.com/2025/08/unfair…

If your pupils get a grade lower than in other subjects, that is in line with how grades are allocated. If your pupils got the same grade as in other subjects, someone else's pupils are getting 2 grades lower. whoteacheslanguages.blogspot.com/2025/08/unfair…

I am so excited for this tournament. If you haven't watched Women's rugby, you so need to give it a go. Fast. Furious. High skill. Attacking. Often plenty of tries and high scoring. Often more entertaining than the constant scrums and resetting of scrums in the men's game.

Exciting news! From next year I’ll be joining United Learning as MFL Advisor for the North. Proud to be taking on this role and really looking forward to working with an amazing team to champion languages! 🌍✨

I find the argument that teachers don’t know how to predict exam grades offensive towards staff professionalism. I’m yet to meet a colleague who doesn’t give this careful thought. The variable they can’t account for is shifting grade thresholds - that’s the issue.

I can’t expect other people to care about the death of Ruth Perry as much as I do. You didn’t know her, I can (and have) spoken at length about the great many ways she was an amazing headteacher but those are just words to you, it is not your lived experience, I 'get it'…
