Whoever said a Raspberry Pi can't be a real NAS?

It's automated with Ansible, pulling ZFS snapshots from my beefy HL15 rackmount NAS, and it's sipping 8.5W while doing so. More to come, here's the story so far: youtube.com/watch?v=D8EIs8…

Today's video coming a little later than usual... had some processing issues (grr), and YouTube's 4K encode seems to be taking longer than usual today.

Download and 3D print your own NAS case for the Raspberry Pi 5 with Penta SATA HAT. It can support the Penta SATA HAT and the Top board with a fan for disk ventilation and OLED for IP address etc: grabcad.com/library/radxa-…

A number of people asked about the mini 10' rack I used in my last video, so here's a quick 3rd channel video where I go through it! youtube.com/watch?v=c8-cdA… (thanks to DeskPi for sending it!)

There are still many who believe in cloud-based dev for apps and websites.

It can be handy but local-first is a drum I'll continue beating forever. I like cloud for project-level CI, but everything should run locally (and is usually much faster/cheaper there).

I'm glad I'm digging into ZFS configuration.

Preconfigured scrub cron job led me to check my calendar—which indicates the next automated scrubbing will be on May 12. That's Mother's Day! Forgot that was next month.

Thanks, ZFS, for saving my marriage!

Twitter' getting weird. Yesterday someone said I was part of some sort of YouTube cult because I wore a yellow shirt in one of my videos (I think?)

Much better take on the current state of corporate open source from David Tippett infoworld.com/article/371524…, especially the bit about who actually writes the *code* for tools/ecosystem like with Redis

I guess InfoWorld isn't _all_ bad?

I really enjoy pressing “like” on YouTube videos, but I have a somewhat different (and rather innovative) idea: show the number of not just “likes,” but also “dislikes,” such that the viewer can judge the quality of a video before wasting time watching something inaccurate.

We’re serving Hats on the Rock today on our blog today!

bret.dk tested our boards on the new Radxa 5C and they all work!

We are very happy to see that the 16 pin PCIe connector is slowly becoming a standard for all SBCs.
