We have now ringed over 200 Willow Warblers on the island since the mid/late July when post breeding passage started. We presume these to be Irish born birds but not entirely sure. The total numbers passing through the island must be ~1000 in the same period. Wow!

An incredible perk of my job is to check on these fluffs! From an empty box in March to a pair, an egg, a fluff and now a scruffy fluff!!

Last week, we said goodbye to our volunteer Seabird Assistant Lucy, who has been a part of the team for the last 4 months. She has been working on our productivity studies, Manxies, Millcombe ringing, and lots more! Thank you for all your help and good luck from everyone here.

After a calm and clear evening (pic)/night and a foggy start to the morning, a nice arrival of Willow Warblers was noted again with 60 birds caught and ringed this morning. A Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Sedge Warbler and some of our island juveniles resulted in 84 birds in total!

Under aurora skies, with frequent meteorites and the every presence of the milky way, we went out nightactching Wheatear. Out of ~20 seen, we caught 12, including 10 new, a retrap last session, and an adult male from our colour ring RAS project, originally ringed in May! Quality.

Last night, under bright skies, we managed to catch 7 almost fledged chicks on the colony. These are some of the early birds thinking of leaving the colony for their travels south. The majority were losing their down very quickly with this individual keeping his mohawk.

The final 22 Greylags are still at Poole Park. By the end of the month, they will probably be heading off for their autumn/winter movements. Kestrels breed on Lundy in low numbers. Their diet mostly consists of small birds and Pygmy Shrews found on the island. This year, we are glad to see at least two juveniles fledge from two pairs. This juvenile in the southern half of the island has been seen frequently on census.

Lundy's wild, rugged West Coast getting a battering from ex-hurricane Ernesto but still looking as stunning as always!! Jenny's Cove, in the first pic, is a particularly beautiful part of the island at any time of the year.

Zero greylags this evening at Longham. Thomas Neither any Canada or Egyptian geese.

catherine smith Thomas There were four greylags Sunday and left in a SW direction. 1 Egyptian goose on South Lake near the solar panels, and only 2 Canada Goose by the large island.

Our Channel Wagtail juvenile is still on the island and slowly getting some yellow - this is one of at least two of the fledglings still here.

It's a pleasure to work with the Manx Shearwater. A species I have been lucky enough to see from the first returnees, settling down, laying eggs, raising chicks, and now the fledglings. This one attracted to the big smoke of the Village. A juvenile not long to be in S America!!
