The US is pointing out to Canadians a rather harsh old truth. You don't "own" what you can't defend. If we totally depend on the US for defense then our sovereignty is not as strong as we fool ourselves into believing.

The only way a Canadian province will separate is if it opts to join the USA. America will simply not allow a new weak country on its northern border. Easily infiltrated by China, Russia, whoever. Look at Cuba. Russia in 1960's and Cuba cut off until this day. US was pissed.

Any province seceding would have to join the USA. Americans will not put up with an independent breakaway country on their border. Too susceptible to infiltration from China, Russia, India, etc. Look at how hostile the US was to Cuba b/c Russia was about to set up nukes.

Disenchantment with Mark Carney has started already. I suspect it will get worse and worse as the year wears on. It may well be that if the economy sours there will be huge and continuous resentment showing up in social media and eventually to mainstream media.
