The Americans have set up an agency called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation with the backing of the IDF who work at a distance from them. The GHF on the ground is mainly made up of American ex servicemen etc and people from Gaza.

Hamas is very keen that this aid system does not work. This is because Hamas creams off the humanitarian aid provided by UN and other humanitarian bodies such as UNRWA and the World Food Programme. It stores some of it in the warehouses for their fighters (now often teenagers)

The aim of the GHF is to starve Hamas of funds while not starving Gazans. Its start has been chaotic but as you can see from the figures from today’s press release (below) they are handing out hundreds of thousands of meals a day.
