Each organism depends for its own existence on the system as a whole. When the system fails the individual organisms mostly die. Think of individual people in societal systems. Remember too that society is couched in a single earth system.

85 million additional each year -- a lot of new mouths to feed on eroding soils. If the 85' doesn't sound so big consider it adds another 1 billion of us every 12 years. Reduce over-consumption, energy & material throughput by 70% globally. Huanistically get back to 2/3 billion.

#Debates will show that America is trapped in a flawed & corrupt two-party system. Even faltering economic growth is fed by massive industrial pollution & the casino economy. Pro-growth will gleam from most all onstage. For now lesser of two evils may be the best next step.

#Debates should also be about the collapse of the natural systems. It means there will (eventually) be a new ecological civilization. Our job: minimize the trials, tribulations, and tragedies associated with the shift. 2024 debates should be about the Great Ecological U-turn.

Scorched earth #economics is the path to irresponsibility. Fueled by volumes of dirty #energy, this tragic path annihilates natural systems, extincts species (ending their function in the web of life). #degrow to continental networks of small economies -- a worthy of pursuit.

A more clear statement of the problem to be solved: we have a planetary health emergency, exemplified by industrial civilization’s disruption of climatic patterns. The existential threat to worry about is losing a livable planet, which includes us unique human animals.

With industrial civilization showing signs of fragility & #collapse, we step up to fight the final battle. Save every natural system you can - #nature nourishes all lives. Build camaraderie and foster dignity planet wide. Design that #ecological ecological U-turn to common sense!

Q: What should be our attitude? A: We have one earth, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let it be forever spoiled. A great U-turn to a restored and healthy planet is to be our future.

Techno-Optimists: The opposite of Techno-Realists. Realists know the tragic history of unintended consequences. Continents -- set up “Technology Assessment Centers” & focus on unintended consequences. Techno fascination and techno-optimism can mean techno-death, but it need not.

The “3E’s” are ecology (for all species); equity (for all people); and an economy that serves those concerns. There's no social equity or vibrant economy on near dead planet. Better world means prospering while living in synch w/ the ways of nature & treating each other decently.

I learned from conservationist Dave Foreman (who learned from a Native Am. Professor) deeper meaning of wild is self-willed. Defining characteristic of wilderness is NOT being undisturbed. It’s NOT virginity, but being self-willed. A rainforest is self-powered living in freedom.

Game-over vaporization. That is what the industrial overconsuming overpopulating destruction of our one livable planet would be feel like -- in geologic time.
