Good - ministers deserved to be defeated in the Lords on terrible decision to remove clause from Withdrawal Bill which guaranteed the rights of unaccompanied children to come to UK Too much to hope Tories in the Commons develop a bit of compassion too? bbc.com/news/uk-politi…

It is bitterly disappointing that after a victory in the Lords the government have voted down my amendment in the Commons. What could be more humane than asking that unaccompanied child refugees stranded in Europe be able to join relatives in this country?

Back in 2016, we launched a strategic litigation against the UK govt to ensure they brought children from the Calais Jungle to safety. What came next was nearly 4 years of legal challenges & campaigning to pressure the UK govt to protect refugee children across Europe. ⁣⁣(2/4)

Money for “enforcement” around Calais spent by the UK Govt: 2010-14 £115m 2014 - £40m 2015 - £49m 2016 - £112m 2017 - £36m 2018 - £45m At what point will the Government realise that the money would be better spent on safe passage, processing and support for refugees?

Can we make it clear that not everyone in this country is heartless and completely without empathy. These poor people deserve the help of their fellow human beings.

Any #Ukrainian who wants to get to the UK should be able to through a safe and immediately accessible route. The most effective way would be to grant humanitarian visas, to allow them to come as a refugee and be entitled to all the support that they need. theguardian.com/world/2022/mar…

If you do one thing this weekend: call on your MP to vote to #ProtectNotPunish (tell your friends, family, neighbours to do the same) Cruelty cannot become normalised. How we treat refugees reflects who we are. We all have a stake in this. 👇 togetherwithrefugees.org.uk/protection-not…

Breaking: European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg grants rule 39 request to stop the flight to Rwanda from leaving. Basis: real risk of inhuman and degrading treatment (Art. 3 ECHR). Please share - government must comply.

Home Office (HO) has decided to put GPS tags on refugees who were set for #RwandaDeportation and also on those arriving on boats. Here is my interview in The Independent very clearly highlighting as to why electronic tagging must not be used: independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n… A thread (1/10)
