With Brian Wilson's death, there's a local man with quite a tribute. Fred Vail was a promoter and later manager for The Beach Boys. I talked with Fred about the group...and also his collaboration with Brian, 1970's unreleased Cows in the Pasture album. newschannel5.com/news/former-be…

Somehow Bunnicula has managed to come up in conversation three times so far in 2025. Then today…I look in the free box at work. Lo and behold. Bunnicula. It’s like he’s trying to find me. When I was in 2nd grade, a librarian thought I was odd for loving this book. Not sorry.

Well, there was no way I was missing this. Ernest Scared Stupid at the Belcourt Theatre! This one’s always been my favorite of that series…between the rad creature designs, Rimshot the dog, Eartha Kitt, and general capturing of what Halloween in the early 90s felt like.

Sheldon the cat’s hanging with me this week. I asked him what movie we should watch and he picked 1983’s DC Cab. Sheldon the cat’s a big fan of Mr. T. First time watch of this one for me, actually…and the theme song’s pretty much already won me over. Thanks, Sheldon the cat.

Time for Sheldon the cat’s latest movie selection. 1976’s Car Wash. I didn’t totally get this one as a kid, but now I enjoy it as a fun super 70s time capsule. Soundtrack’s killer. Bonus points for the appearance by The Pointer Sisters. Sheldon prefers to watch it upside down.

Before catching the new Superman tonight…giving this one a quick rewatch. 1980’s Superman II. It’s still so good. The 1978 film is right there with it, but I’m partial to II for the Zod/Ursa/Non stuff. The cast is perfect, the jokes land, and the big Metropolis battle is fuuun.

So. I was just thinking. You look at a lot of the great summer camp films (which include, of course, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Addams Family Values, and Ernest Goes To Camp). Seems like the kids are always at camp all summer. Did anyone actually go to camp ALL summer?

"Camp Hope is a summer camp for pediatric burn survivors,” said camp director Brittni Davis. “All of our campers were once patients at Vanderbilt Health. They all have the same scars, and they don't have to be different. They're just another kid in summer camp." newschannel5.com/news/camp-hope…

You can often find the coolest stuff in mom and pop shops. This is Seventh Street Market in Paragould, Arkansas…where my dad gets catfish everyday. Inside…a whole wall covered in vintage Hot Wheels in the packaging. And. Yes. The catfish was good.

Did a little early evening walk around downtown Asheville. This is the coolest city. That mural is *I think* of…Don Knotts? If I’m wrong on that, someone correct me. …and is that from a particular movie/show…?
