Today we remember the 193 souls lost on The Herald of Free Enterprise on the evening of the 6th March 1987, and think of their families, friends and the rescuers ~ Rest in Peace ~

Seven years ago tonight, Irish Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 116 set out on task with Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, Captain Mark Duffy, Winchman Ciarán Smith and Winch Operator Paul Ormsby on board. Tragically lost in the early hours of the 14th March they are remembered, always.

DDC has continued to clear a small number of oil deposits from the beaches between Deal Pier and Sandwich Bay. If you see substantial deposits or affected wildlife call 01304 821199. We remind dog owners to keep their pets on leads where necessary and please be aware if swimming.

📟Tasked today with Langdon & Deal teams to a dog that had headed off for an adventure behind fencing over East Wear Bay. Once located we deployed a rope rescue technician down to bring her safely back to her buddy & Mum Coastal emergency - dial 📞9⃣9⃣9⃣ and ask for Coastguard

📟 How many CROs does it take to move a thingy up the beach? 5 it seems! Tasked on 30th March to investigate an object at the shoreline along Princes Parade. We flexed our muscles (and some mussels...) and got it up to the top of the beach for collection by the local authorities.

We were tasked to reports of a kayaker in the sea off Folkestone beach. We attended with Rescue 163, Romney Marsh CG Littlestone lifeboat and Kent Police. The casualty was lifted by winchman paramedic, landed on the beach & passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Speedy recovery!

So we didn’t win the Folkestone sandcastle competition with our rather simple cliff but we did add a bit of fun with a miniature dog rescue …. There were some stunning sculptures and very worthy winners - we’ll up our game for next year!
