Sorry about that. We are using Sparkle for updates, which is used by almost every Mac apps: sparkle-project.org. I am surprised it does not handle that case better. Not trying to deflect the blame; there are so many things to get wrong, Sparkle is a god-send for Mac devs!

That would indeed be a possible approach, though it's still a significant amount of work. It's on our todo list...
