Following our Safe Spaces for Girls project, we were in Baja Kunda this afternoon for our "Kebba Kacha" project funded by UNICEF The Gambia through Nova Scotia-Gambia Association. This project is geared to engage parents and community leaders to #EndFGM, #EndChildMarriage and #EndGBV.
UNICEF The Gambia Nova Scotia-Gambia Association Sophie Manneh The women of Baja Kunda shared major improvements in their community. They have more girls in school now and more families doing away with FGM. Yet, they emphasize that one life is still one too many. They require more interventions to completely eradicate these practices.
UNICEF The Gambia Nova Scotia-Gambia Association Sophie Manneh The Ward Councillor, who was a crucial partner in the realisation of this project highlighted the need for more community engagement on FGM, child marriage & GBV. He emphasized the need to report these cases and create a conducive environment for women and girls to thrive.
