#lawtwitter in Ontario Important professional responsibility question: If you are doing an in-person discovery or mediation or court appearance, should you insist that all other persons in the room are using the COVID tracker app?

#Ontario #lawtitter re #smallclaims: Important from Superior Court of Justice (ON) re remote settlement conferences. Either party (even without consent of other side) of a cancelled conference can request to have the matter heard remotely. See: ontariocourts.ca/scj/notices-an…

Marcel D. Mongeon (@marcelmongeon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It is important to understand that the court does not need the consent of both sides to schedule a settlement conference. A request from either side is sufficient. #Ontario #paralegals and #lawyers should advise their clients to proceed with such requests as soon as possible.

The phrase for 2020: "You're on mute!" Seriously, there are now means to limit this problem in Zoom. Learn about them in our Zoom master classes for the legal community. ezcpd.ca/zoom-master-cl…

#lawtwitter in #Ontario: Update today for the #smallclaims notices on Superior Court of Justice (ON) website. Change includes expanding the matters where a settlement conference can be sought. More expansions likely coming soon. Get your requests in before the flood! ontariocourts.ca/scj/notices-an…

Hey BLG -- who do we write to clear the email blacklist you have us on? Can you afford to blacklist people offering #CPD courses about Zoom and computer security?

Hey BlakeCassels&Graydon : how do we get removed from your email blacklist? Can you really afford not to receive #CPD notices about courses on Zoom and computer security?

A lot of large law firms are using 'blackists' to prevent the receipt of email messages. This means the email gets dropped. As the courts and other lawyers and service providers need to move more communications to email (instead of paper), this doesn't seem like a good strategy.

#lawtwitter: I'm watching Ontario court of appeal on Zoom today. Why can't the court tie the court sound system into Zoom? It is not the tough to do and makes life a lot better. In addition, on a three judge panel even in person, each judge shoudl have a separate camera.

Defence lawyers in #Ontario OCJ Zoom courts should have a model to emulate. We have been very impressed with a number of courts in the US. One to watch to see how lists can move is Bexar Co: youtube.com/channel/UC1kUP… (court starts at 10:30 am ET-9:30 CT)

#lawtwitter (esp. in Ontario) - digital document filing and file size problems are caused by printing and scanning documents as opposed to just keeping the documents in original digital form. Work with your clients to: Keep documents in digital form. Don't print them.

We need (with the video systems) to find more opportunities to allow people to see 'real world' processes in the legal environment. Courts should allow some types of sessions to be recorded and streamed for students and learning purposes! #lawtwitter

Best tip for lawyers: Tell your clients to keep digital documents (emails, photos and doc files) in digital form. Don't print them out to send to you. Whenever you print and scan, you lose information and cause the resulting files to be bigger. #lawtwitter #ehearings
