I love these name changes because they encourage us to read about the rich history in EC. Gompo is the name of a river where Xhosa warriors would go and seek strength during the 100-year war between AmaXhosa and the British. First time the British encountered defeat in Africa.

Really poorly-reasoned judgment. It mixes up so many administrative law principles while it claims not to engage administrative law. Bizarrely, it says the Biowatch principle doesn’t apply yet in the first line it says the case is about constitutional rights. Appealable.

While the Constitutional Court is busy making Caesars of our Ministers, the Western Cape Division just invalidated provisions of the VAT Act that delegated lawmaking power to the Minister of Finance. Sanity prevails!

I am glad the HC has declared the power of the FinMin - to change the VAT rate unilaterally, by mere announcement - to be unconstitutional. This will of course go to the ConCourt, but it is an important step in the process of democratising the budget process.
