Marius shook his head. “He has no power over your place, ‘Ponine. You don’t have to listen to him.”

“Run away with me! I’ll take you far away from him and you’ll be safe.” The boy was lovesick.

“We can. Trust me, ‘Ponine, we can!” He’s sporting a wide smile as he took her hands again. “We can go far away from here and I will keep you safe.”

Marius frowned in thought. “Then after the revolution. ‘Ponine, everything will be alright, I promise.”

“I promise.” He held her hands in his and smiled.

Marius just shrinks away and sits in the corner.
