Congratulations Ellen Blais, Director of Indigenous Midwifery @OntarioMidwives - first-ever recipient of the Layton Indigenous Leadership Award recognizing powerful changemakers! Join the celebration May 11, 1 p.m.: changeleaders.ca/laytonaward Institute for Change Leaders The Layton Legacy
Honoured to be chosen to be the inaugural recipient of the The Layton Legacy Indigenous Leadership Award. I stand with all Indigenous midwives who are leaders in their communities from coast to coast to coast. Institute for Change Leaders
After almost a decade of determined perseverance, Ontario #midwives can truly savour their landmark human rights victory: Ontario Ministry of Health has confirmed they will not seek leave to appeal the HRTO #payequity decision for midwives at the Supreme Court of Canada. ontariomidwives.ca/its-vindicatin…
We applaud Ontario Government for making the right choice to not waste any more resources on a third appeal of midwives' human rights win! The AOM looks forward to working together with Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to complete the implementation of the HRTO-ordered remedies.
Blazing a trail through Canada’s legal landscape was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts & support of midwives, our legal team Mary Cornish Adrienne Telford Cavalluzzo LLP, organizations & individuals across Canada. THANK YOU for helping #Ontariomidwives make history.
I was lucky enough to meet Ellen Blais early in my career and it has profoundly impacted my knowledge journey. Indigenous births belong in community. The work Ellen & other are leading will help make this a reality. I’m so proud to be your friend, Ellen! www-cbc-ca.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.cbc.ca…
'We have a declaration for indigenous people, but we need a convention. We also need one for older people.' - powerful speech by Ovide Mercredi at ILC Canada UN For Ageing side-event #OEWG13 'First right should be to belong. The second right should be the right to be different.'
