Helping to plan our next team meeting today. Last summer we looked at the use of heritage interpretation panels to tell the story of a place to local communities.

Just had a really good meeting with colleagues developing a new app. It’s designed to help people working on reservoirs build environmental sensitivity into the decision making process. Reminded me of the medieval weir we found in the midlands last year!

What was the climate like in Somerset 6000 years ago? Archaeologists are currently examining prehistoric layers of peat as part of flood defence repairs. The site includes the remains of a Neolithic trackway. It’s one of 1798 designated heritage sites on our estate.

I think the coast is a little cooler this weekend. This historic buoy has been brought out of retirement with the help Environment Agency landscape architects. Its one of six art installations in the Boston Buoys Trail and overlooks the new Boston Tidal Flood Barrier. #TeamEA

Feedback from Steve Dean our archaeologist in the northwest, having spent this morning talking to a primary school class.. ‘Any day I can fit Indiana Jones and Calvin & Hobbes into a presentation about archaeology and the Environment Agency is a good day!’#FestivalofArchaeology

With the team in Yorkshire this week talking about using archaeological evidence when designing natural flood management. The Pickering museum had added these words to their sign!

The archaeology in our rivers can be amazing. Low water levels today in Derby exposing the pier of a demolished medieval bridge. #drought

A brilliant Chartered Institute for Archaeologists conference In Nottingham #CIfA2023 . Today we tested flood management scenarios against Historic landscape characteristics. Lots on the flood management role of historic hedgerows and woodland AND we had a visit from Robin Hood!
